Marcus Wu Dissociation
Although many families immigrate in pursuit of a better life for themselves, it can come at a cost. As the child of immigrant parents I have struggled to connect with the cultural past my parents left behind. My acrylic sculptures are etched with topographic maps from my modern Sydney suburb and the country of my parents' past. These sculptures express the barriers between myself and my culture in abstracted shape and form. The screen prints, referencing the concentric nature of topographic maps, represent the two cultures side by side, overlapping yet complementing each other.
