Caleb Holmes Putting little white dots on the blue-black is not enough to paint a starry sky
My body of work is intended to immerse the audience in scenes that are impossible to see with the naked eye. My life-long passion for space inspired me to photograph these 'nebulae'. I used specialised equipment to produce the images, using exposure times of up to 11 hours to bring out these dim objects. I used specialised filters to navigate the light pollution of the urban environment. I took inspiration from Van Gogh’s quote in a letter to his sister, 'Putting little white dots on the blue-black is not enough to paint a starry sky.'
