Ceara Metlikovec makes meticulously rendered and carefully considered graphite drawings of great precision and meditative subtlety. They have, at first glance, all the hallmarks of minimalism, but closer inspection reveals the unmistakable signs of the artist’s hand, with subtle rhythms and tensions over the surface of the sheet.

Rendered with great clarity and precision using the most traditional of drawing mediums – graphite on paper – the drawing has a mysterious quality that draws the eye back in. Its rhythmic, oscillating passages of light and shade come from bursts of deep concentration on the part of the artist as she makes the work, sometimes to music, to ‘chart’ her interior states.
