Noel McKenna Patrick Corrigan AM, with Rosie

oil and acrylic on canvas

150.3 x 150.3 cm

Businessman Patrick Corrigan is an art collector and a generous benefactor. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2000 for service to the visual arts, particularly in philanthropy. This is the fifth time he has been the subject of a portrait in the Archibald Prize.

‘Pat is a good friend and a supporter of many artists. He lives near me and often drops by for a cup of tea and biscuits. He was born in China and has had a very interesting life, so he is always good to spend time with,’ says Noel McKenna.

‘My dog Rosie is very friendly with Pat and always sits near him, often just watching him as she is doing here. On this particular day, Pat dozed off for a short while and it struck me as a nice moment to capture. There is a copy of a biography of Agnes Martin, which I was reading at the time that Pat dropped around.’

McKenna is also a finalist in this year’s Wynne and Sulman Prizes – the only artist in 2022 to feature in all three exhibitions.
