As one door closes, another opens is a site-specific public artwork manifested to encourage optimism and hope during the tumultuous social context of 2021. The mural commission was painted on the side of an apartment building in Darlinghurst, as part of the City of Sydney’s Art & About program in mid 2021. I adopted the door as a symbol of encouragement – inviting the public to move forward and through it. The colour and geometry speak to the vibrancy of progress and the essential way our city utilises community to move beyond hardship.

I am constantly inspired by minimal abstraction, the histories of design and the evolution of architecture. The way these contexts provide material paradigms for human behaviour is endlessly interesting to me.
