George Tjungurrayi Untitled

acrylic on linen

183 x 152 cm

This painting depicts designs associated with Mungilpa, a small plant, which grows in claypan areas. It produces a small black seed, which is formed into damper. It is said that a man of the Tjapaltjarri kinship cast a spear and this plant grew out of the ground where the falling spear struck. It has multiplied and now grows profusely in the claypan area west of Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay).
