Maringka Baker Minyma kutjara tjukurpa

synthetic polymer paint on linen

200 x 243.5 cm

Maringka Baker is a senior Pitjantjatjara artist living in the remote community settlement of Kanpi, on the South Australian Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands. She was born around 1952 at Kaliumpil rock hole, a traditional camping area in Western Australia. Her painting style is distinguished by a mastery of tone and a self-assured command of colour and composition, which she uses to express a deep connection and knowledge of country. Her work is highly sought after by a loyal group of collectors, and she has been hugely influential on a younger generation of APY artists.
