Blak Douglas, Elaine Russell Ashes, damper and kangaroo stew for dinner

synthetic polymer paint on canvas

94.5 x 124.5 cm

Aunty Elaine’s style was the most influential on my development as a painter. Both her and Leonie Dennis’s works appealed to me because of their simplicity, naivety and colour. The most important element, however, are the key lines. Aunty Elaine was a fellow exhibiting artist at Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-op and a regular finalist in major awards. Knowing that, I became keen to acquire one of her works. Her son Troy suggested I might complete this, the last painting Elaine began before passing.
