charcoal

119.5 cm (diameter)

The Franklin River winds its way through west lutruwita/Tasmania. Rugged and wild, this breathtaking terrain has sparked a lasting legacy of wilderness protection and activism. Notably the works of artists Bonita Ely, Olegas Truchanas and Peter Dombrovskis helped turn this river into a catalyst for environmental protection. Through abstraction and reduction, this work pares back the landscape to its bare topographic features. Drawing on our continued exploration of the healing qualities of charcoal, this work seeks to find balance and harmony in a time of increased environmental vulnerability in the face of human-induced climate change.
