Judith Pungarta Inkamala Namatjira family picnic at Impurtna

earthenware and underglazes

40 x 34.5 cm

This is all the Namatjira family out for picnic, other side from Albert Namatjira’s house at Impurtna (Goat Camp), Northern Territory. They go fishing in the Finke River, kids went swimming. Robina, Albert’s wife, would always make really good damper – she is on the lid, cooking damper with her daughter and granddaughter Gillian Namatjira. Gillian was my good friend. Albert is making a painting, the kids are looking around and watching grandfather doing the painting. They been taking a lot of dogs with them too, for company. They are digging for minna yalka (bush-onion) and boiling water for cup of tea.
