3 Queenslanders portrays three traditional timber houses in tropical northern Australia – a form of vernacular domestic architecture. Built with a fairly standardised timber frame, they are usually lined with timber slats known as chamfer boards. They stand on timber or cement stumps, creating an area under the house which can take advantage of afternoon breezes.

I have painted these houses numerous times. I grew up in one, so I do have a nostalgic feel for them. However, on a few occasions, when standing in front of one of my paintings, people have commented that I have made the stumps too high.
