acrylic on linen
199.5 x 297.2 cm
Jeannie Minunga and Kay Finn are sisters-in-law and live in far north South Australia. Myra Kumantjara is Minunga’s daughter and is based at Umoona community. They began painting together as the Umoona Senior Women’s Collaborative at Umoona Art Centre in Coober Pedy in 2021. This is their first collaborative work.
The women depict important cultural sites and stories of their Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara Country. Minunga paints Wanampi Tjukurpa (water serpent) near Paradise; Finn paints the kapi tjukula (waterholes) around Oodnadatta, and Kumantjara depicts Kalpi, a women’s site near Mimili.
